Healing Timeline
Day 1: Immediately Post-Procedure
Appearance: Some swelling and redness. The penis is wrapped in gauze.
Care: Apply petroleum jelly (Vaseline) liberally to prevent sticking to the diaper. Keep the area clean and dry.
Monitoring: A small amount of blood on the gauze or diaper is normal. Seek medical attention for significant bleeding. For any questions, contact Dr. Lieberman.
Days 2-3: Gauze Removal
Appearance: The gauze may fall off naturally or should be soaked in warm water and carefully removed within 48 hours. Some redness and a white/yellow healing film may appear on the penis.
Care: Continue applying petroleum jelly with each diaper change.
Monitoring: Swelling should start to reduce slightly. If excessive redness or foul-smelling discharge is present, contact Dr. Lieberman.
Days 4-7: Ongoing Healing
Appearance: Swelling and redness should continue to subside. The healing film is part of the normal process.
Care: Maintain petroleum jelly application, ensuring the area remains clean and dry.
Monitoring: Watch for signs of infection, such as persistent swelling, unusual discharge, or fever. If concerns arise, contact Dr. Lieberman.
Week 2: Near Complete Healing
Appearance: The circumcised area should appear largely healed, with swelling and redness mostly gone.
Care: Continue gentle care as needed. Ensure the foreskin does not adhere to the head of the penis.
Monitoring: Healing should be almost complete.
